The Original

Mercedes - Benz is introduced its new line of W114/115 mid -prices sedans in 1967 but the first ones didn't hit dealers until January, 1968 leading to the /8 designation which simply denoted the first year on sale. For Mercedes, the read-drive unibody design was fairly conventional except for the diagonal swing-axle rear suspension that improved road handling without sacrificing ride comfort. In November, 1968 Mercedes added a coupe to the lineup, the company's first ever in its mid -priced class.
Several engines were offered, the most powerful being a 2.8-liter twin cam inline six that debuted in April, 1972 in the 280c. It made 160hp with a carburator and 185 hp with optional fuel injection. With a flatter windshield, astriking pillarless-hardtop design, and a roof lowered by 45mm(1.8 inches), the coupes sold well. Mercedes built a total 67,048 of all types before production ended in 1976
