The Original

The one field the Audi Quattro didn't excel in was agility, an essentiality for rally cars, the long wheel base and long overhang didn't help cornering. To solve this Audi simply cut a bit out of the middle of the car which made the wheelbase 320mm shorter.To get this short wheel base Quattro homologated for rallying Audi had to produce a number of road cars and the Sport Quattro was born. Not only were the dimensions of the Quattro but the engine was tweaked a little too to produce 306 bhp instead of the 200 bhp of the base Quattro.With the help of Audi's four wheel drive system and the rally racing derived brakes the Sport Quattro was one of the fastest accelerating and braking cars of its day.
