The fifth generation of the 5 Series has been rolling off the lines since the autumn of 2003. Larger and more roomy that its predecessors, it offers above all appreciably more space in the back. In its design the car makes a clear statement: the bold angles stretch from the long front to the rear, that projects to accommodate a 60 litre increase in boot capacity taking it to 520 litres. The interior of this saloon designed for travelling is presented as a combination of sensuous curves and strong straight lines. The instruments in the cockpit are laid out for visibility, the modified iDrive function is within easy reach. The comfortable driver's seat can now ride very low in order to give it a sporty feel. BMW has also given the 5 Series that something extra in leading edge technology, which is clearly evident in the chassis and steering with sporty driving. The chassis, like the forward structure, is now made of aluminium to reduce the weight. The basic version, which is available for 40,600 Euros (approx. £28,666) can be extended with a wide variety of extras such as the Dynamic Drive hydraulic roll equalizer. Comfortable, but sporty, the car is impressive to drive, with its outstanding suspension, flawless braking and very good handling. The 530i is powered by a 2779 cc, six cylinder in-line engine that delivers 231 bhp. According to the works, it has a top speed of 245 kph and accelerates from 0 to 100 kph in 7.1 seconds.
