The Peugeot 404 was officially presented to the press at the Palais des Sports in Versailles, in May 1960. The collaboration between Peugeot and Pininfarina started with the 403 and having satisfied the management, they decided to continue with the idea. It was, in fact, on the 404 that this collaboration really took off.
On the mechanical side, the 404 is a perfect continuation of the 403 and the 203: Front mounted engine and front wheel drive. On the sport side: Winnder of the Monte Carlo rally, European tour, Automobile Tour de France, Snow rally, Argentina rally...
The enormous prize list of the 404 reflects a prestigious career in Rally which is without doubt equal to that of its main rival the Citroen DS.
