Sherman M4A3
At the end of 1942 the "A3" Version of American medium weight battle tank "M4 Sherman" went into production, In early 1943 it first appeared on WW2 battle grounds.
Its good armour and the highly penetrating 76mm gun made it a superior opponent to German and Japanese tanks. Later that year however the new German "Panther" and "Tiger" tanks emerging in vast numbers turned out to be even superior to the "A3" in arming and armour, whereas the Sherman still kept the better hand in manoeuvrability and heavy terrain.
