Mercedes Benz 300 SL Roadster 1957
300 SL - For generations car fans all over the world have been fascinated by this simple number/letter combination.
The legendary origin of the production car is traced back to the race car prototype models similar in form, which were entered highly succesfully from 1952 on in the Mille Miglia, the Carrera Mexicana and the other auto racing events.
Its technology is based on a novel, warping resistant grid tyoe tubular frame as wel as a 3L 215 hp, V6 engine with fuel injection.
The engine has the 300 SL model advanced to the strongest and fastest production sports car in the world when it appeared on the market in August of 1954
From 1957 onwards, the roadster (W198II) replaced the prominent coupe, because the factory hoped for better sales oportunities especially on the american market. The more comfortable and in the eyes of many beholders also more attractive roadster answered the desired expectations.
1858 sold units of the 300 SL roadster faced only 1400 sold units of the coupe
