The Original

The 535i was introduced in 1988 as the most powerful model of the new 5 Series and set new benchmarks in terks of engine versions, space and equipment which left its competitors way behind at this point

In the 3.5 litre version with 155 kW / 211 hp the engine has a maximum torque of just above 300 Nmproviding running characteristics that can only be described as exemplary. At a top speed of approx. 235 kph the 535i was hard to beat in its class.

On the interior, the outstanding features of the new model included the ergonomic design of the driver seat and surroundings. The 13 cm increases in the wheelbase and 50 mm wider interior created enough room for rear-seat passengers as well, one aspect that many BMW customers had found lacking in predecessor models.
