The Original

Audi's first LeMans entry was with this R8R and its sister coupe version the R8C in 1999. The coupe version had all sorts of problems but the R8R showed promiss in its first outing at LeMans. After the 1999 season the coupe program was binned to focus on the roadser and with success as the R8 won the next three LeMans races. The R8R shown here is the first running prototype, the actual LeMans racer was slightly modified.
