The Model

Zora's Snake Eater!

RETIRED
LIMITED EDITION

Model of the Year 1999

Exoto are pleased to introduce the definitive model replica of Chevrolet's muscle-bound factory special racer. The Lightweight Corvette Grand Sport. Equipped with a 377 cubic inch aluminum-block, it was designed to blow the hoods off Ferraris and Carroll Shelby's Cobras at famous world tracks like Sebring or Le Mans.

After the Prototypes had proven their mettle, 125 production street beasts would be unleashed by Corvette Godfather, Zora Arkus-Duntov. It never happened. The GM boardroom in Detroit put a stop to the cars construction - but they couldn't stop the 5 Grand Sports already built. And neither could the competition!

From front to back, no other model offers such detail, such quality

To honor this spectacular Corvette of Corvettes, Exoto designed a high precision miniature in grand 1:18 scale; determined to bring you an unprecedented level of finish and detail in every aspect. Inside and out.

Each wonderful replica features an independant tubular chassis, full opening parts, working suspension, accurate mechanical components, a fully wired and plumbed engine, and much more...

One thing you can’t imagine is just how much we put into this model until you actually hold it in your hands. The fact is, everywhere you look it is a feast for your eyes.

The Corvette Grand Sport Coupe. It's got all the Corvette in it you’d possibly want in one model.

Rubber-like GOODYEAR tires with genuine tread
Fabric seat-belts with photo-etched metal hardware

The Original

1964 Augusta, car #14 driven by Don Yenko

After the corporate heads at GM announced that Chevrolet was in no way involved with the Mecom Racing Team, all three Grand Sport Coupes were handed over to privateers. This Grand Sport, chassis 004, was raced at Green Valley Raceway outside Forth Worth, Texas, by Dallas Chevrolet dealer Delmo Johnson, Jr., before the car was retrieved by its new owner, Grady Davis.

Davis entered chassis 004, still wearing it's Mecom Blue metallic paint, in the season opening USRRC race at Augusta International Speedway in Georgia; to be piloted by famed East Coast Corvette driver, Don Yenko. Yenko had considerable driving experience in the original, smaller engine Corvettes but this was his first and only drive in the Grand Sport since they had been extensively modified for Nassau.

Since this car was to compete at Sebring, just two weeks later, Yenko did not push the Grand Sport to it's full capability. After a smooth, uneventful drive, Yenko finished 11th overall.
