In the spring of 1966, the rumor mill was busy churning out stories of a truly unique car from Chaparral to contest the Can-Am. When Chaparral failed to appear at the first race, nobody was surprised. Until the Texas team appeared late for practice at Bridgehampton, the rumors were dismissed as a hoax. But they did arrive! Sam Posey wrote, "...the Chaparrals crouched there smugly as if they knew that their wings had just rendered every other racing car in the world obsolete."

The 2E bodywork is a recipe of lines that are both agressive and beautiful. From the broad high wing to the ground-hugging nose, and the bulbous front wheel arches to the squared off tail, this astonishing racer is all business. The sculpted shape ahead of the windshield, and indeed the formed windshield itself demonstrate the lengths that Jim Hall was prepared to go in creating what would eventually become his favourite.
