The Model

Shelby Cobra 260

An American Vision

To many, the Cobra 260 needs no introduction. If it wasn't for this car, the Shelby American Legend would not have seen the light of day. Yet, surprisingly, it remained unattended in the high detail and big scale modeling worlds. Unattended!? That is, of course, until now.

The most ambitious diecast project ever!

Genuine carpet, cushioned seats and fabric seatbelt with phot-etch hardware, real leather on buckles.

A real wire spoked tire resides under a trunk lid that included an accurate support.

Exoto's seamless genuine metal wire wheel with aluminum vale stems and three layers of spokes.

Fully wired and plumbed Ford Motor nestled in the engine bay included a renuine metal dipstick

The Exoto team of dedicated enthusiasts put their minds and resources together in creating the most ambitious project ever in the diecast modeling world... As the story unfolds, the models will become available according to their historical chronology!

Exoto presents a stunningly detailed and accurate miniature of the first Cobra. Beneath the hood with its accurate prop is the Ford 260 c.i. engine which generated enough power to beat almost any other car on the road. The interior was designed for road and track; Exoto's team has taken the greatest care to reproduce Shelby's cushioned leather seats and racing harnesses, the wood-rimmed steering wheel, and bright-beveled gauges. Under the car is an accurate suspension with functional steering and realistic leaf-springs. The trunk, held open by an accurate and realistic support, houses a real wire-spoked wheel with precisely formed spare tire like the four on the car.

The Original

First Cobra Victory 1963 Riverside driven by Dave MacDonald

For 1963, Shelby hired a young tiger by the name of Dave MacDonald. He was anxious to get a full-time professional ride and happily accepted what Shelby was able to pay. The Californian was already well aware of the Cobra's potential, having watched Cobra taillights show the way around Riverside for an hour in 1962. In that race, Shelby had seen his potential and was willing to take a chance with the relatively unknown driver.

When the regional races at Riverside were held in January 1963, Shelby and his team had worked the bugs out of the Cobra and could sense that their first victory was just around the corner. MacDonald, together with teammate Ken Miles, trounced the Corvettes, driving off into the distance. The pair of Cobras were simply the class of the field. So much so, that Miles took advantage of his massive performance advantage to stop in the pits for a drink only to exit and re-pass the Corvettes without even breaking a sweat.

Driving his first race in a Cobra, MacDonald earned the Cobra its first of many victories... and on the following day he brought home the Cobra's second victory! The future was looking bright... very bright!
