The Original

Porsche 911 (996) GT3 RS 2004

The new 996 GT3 RS continues the tradition of beeing an evocative symbol of Porsche racing technology. The car meets the homologation requirements for the next generation of racing GT3 in accordance with FIA-N/GT and ACO regulations. As a road-going race car, the standard RS offers pure sports performance in every respect. The engine, transmission, body and chassis have all been refined for competition use. All extraneous weight has been stripped out of the car, the result being a saving of approximately 50 kg when compared with the 911 GT3 Clubsport.

The engine retains all of its muscle, applying a maximum power output of 280 kw (381 bhp) to a kerb weight of just 1,360 kg. Zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) requires just 4.4 seconds and the top speed is 306 km/h (190mph).

Among the key modifications at the front of the car are a distinctive lip spoiler at the base of the front apron and radiator vents ahead of the luggage compartment. At the rear of the car, down force is generated by a fixed-wing spoiler derived largely from the 911 GT3 Cup. The luggage compartment lid is made of carbon fibre and the rear windscreen of a lightweight plastic.

Most remarkable of all is the everyday practicality of a car that has not only been created for racing but also fully approved for the road.
