Mazda RX-8

The RX-8 is an entirely new sports car that embodies Mazda's 'Zoom-Zoom' brand message to the maximum by pursuing 'distinctive design', 'exceptional functionality' and 'responsive handling and performance'.

Mazda is currently the only automaker in the world developing and producing rotary engines. The RENESIS is a new-generation rotary engine employing twin rotors, each with a displacement of 654 cc. The engine was designed especially to power the all-new four-door, four-seater Mazda RX-8 sports car and the sequential dynamic intake and drive-by-wire system of a high-powered version deliver 247 hp. Fuel efficiency and emissions are also substantially improved over the previous rotary engine.

The advanced front midship layout, with the RX-8's engine mounted 60 mm further aft and the dashboard located 80 mm further forward than with the RX-7, combine with all-new front/rear suspension to achieve exceptional cornering and stability.

The rear doors of the RX-8 are virtually invisible when closed. They are hinged at the back and open and close only when the front doors are open. The deep trunk provides plenty of space for both everyday needs and the family trip with a full complement of passengers on board. There are a number of innovative design touches that point to the car's power source: the rotor shape is displayed on the bonnet's power bulge, on the rear fog light, on the gear stick and on the front seat headrests.
