The Original

The BMW 600, designed by Willy Black, was a larger version of the Motocoupe, which was a popular mini-car of the 1950's. The mini-car trend began with an Italian Company, ISO, in 1950. The 600ʽ―s front end resembled that of the Isetta, but the 600's wheelbase was increased to occupy four seats. Weighing in at only 1,140 pounds (515 Kg), the 600 sported a conventional rear axle, a semi-trailing arm independent suspension and a more powerful engine than the Isetta. The powerplant for the 600 is a 582 cc twin cylinders engine from the R67 motorcycle which allowed a top speed of 64 miles per hour (103 km/h). Being a 2 + 2 coupe, it has two doors. One door is located at the front and the other is on the right-hand side that gives access to the rear bench seats for two additional passengers. Compared to other similar cars, it had modest overall dimensions and a minimal overhang at the front and rear. A conventional 4-wheel layout was employed to endure a heavier load limit and enhance performance.
